    What is your educational background?
I hold a BSc and MSc in International Business from the University of Southern Denmark Odense. During my studies I have conducted a semester in Hong Kong and an internship at the Danish Consulate General in Dubai.

How can you use the Commercial Shipping Program in your job as a shipping trainee?
The Commercial Shipping Program constitutes a well tailored supplement of relevant content to my daily work as shipping trainee. Learning about various aspects of the shipping industry, cultural awareness and business communication are especially topics I actively use on a daily basis when communicating with brokers, captains and agents, etc. around the world. Moreover, I have obtained a better understanding of how the different elements and mechanisms which drive the world economy are intertwined, and how it affects the shipping industry and the company I work for.

What is the best thing about the Commercial Shipping Program?
The best thing about the Commercial Shipping Program is the combination of academic enrichment but also the opportunity to meet fellow trainees from other shipping companies, underpinning the value of networking which is another important aspect of shipping.

What are your ambitions in relation to the future?
My ambitions are to become an expert in what I do and contributing with strengthening the position of J. Lauritzen. In addition, one of my goals is to be posted abroad at one of Lauritzen’s offices e.g. Shanghai, Singapore, or Stamford in US, or possibly start up a new office in another country.

    What is your educational background?

    • STX
    • BSc in Business Administration and Service Management from CBS

How can you use the Commercial Shipping Program in your job as a shipping trainee?
Shipping is truly an industry of learning by doing and that is what I absolutely love about my traineeship. In an industry like this the shipping program is a very good supplement to the very practical daily work in the office. As the program introduces and teaches us some of the more theoretical stuff and develop other skills, which are not covered in our daily workdays.

What is the best thing about the Commercial Shipping Program?
I believe that one of the greatest strengths of the program is that it achieves to make it interesting and relevant for all the different markets within shipping to participate in the program. First of all we get around all the different markets within the industry and get a broader understanding, hence get a chance to understand other markets than only the one of which our company works within. Second of all and very importantly is the variety of non-market related courses, such as cultural awareness and negotiation. Finally it is a true pleasure being educated together with all the other young trainees represented by all the other shipping companies, which ensures good friendships and relationships throughout the industry.

What are your ambitions in relation to the future?
As a second year trainee the end of one’s traineeship does not seem far away, hence I am slowly starting to think about I see myself in the future. In my case I have from the beginning been very confident that I should be an operator, but being with the chartering department for about 3 months now has been kind of an eye-opener. Both departments are very interesting and challenging in its own ways. In a dream world I will continue within my company and be allocated at our US office for a couple of year – chartering or operation time will tell.

    What is your educational background?
I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and business administration, HA (Psyk.), from CBS in Copenhagen. Before starting at CBS, I had completed an STX from a Danish high school. After finishing my degree I had the chance to do a traineeship in a Norwegian offshore supply company, so I moved to Tromsø for a year.

How can you use the Commercial Shipping Program in your job as a shipping trainee?
The Commercial Shipping Program made it easier to start in an industry that I have not previously had exposure to. Even though my day-to-day work is solely within dry bulk shipping, the Shipping Program gives me a great overview over shipping general. Furthermore, the class room lectures provides you with current market conditions and helps you understand the industry in a broader sense, which enables you to put your daily work into a context.

What is the best thing about the Commercial Shipping Program?
The best thing about the Commercial Shipping Program is by far that you get to interact and socialize with future colleagues and competitors who may also be new in the shipping business.

What are your ambitions for the future?
My ambition for the future is to finish my traineeship and do well enough to be offered a full-time position. I will continue to enjoy the unique possibility that you have as trainee to experience multiple sides of the business, as you get to rotate between departments which is important in terms of professional development.
